This is the springboard for the mission on open access, a concept championed most notably by activist and programmer Aaron Swartz. For this mission's purpose, a more general connotation of "open access" is taken that does not carry specific weight towards academia and research publication. Articles pertaining to this mission will carry the mission banner mission/open access. It is part of the broader mission on software sociology.
